You know the saying, so much to do and so little time…well, The Finder has nominated November as the month devoted to empowering the inner you. We invite you to take control and find the time to get the job done with perhaps a little help from the experts at hand. For the year is passing at a rate of knots and it seems there’s little or no time to finalise all those plans made with every good intention seemingly only a few short months ago. But you can do it. It may be a sprint to the end of what has been a marathon year, but now is your chance to reach for your goals and be open to learn what others have to share when dealing with the challenges life may present.

So, with 2011 rapidly drawing to a close (who can believe it?) the aim is to be realistic in your planning so you can achieve your objectives. To help you along, the November issue of The Finder includes advice and ideas from specialists in a variety of disciplines ranging from personal wellbeing, health, wealth and finance to self-improvement, beauty, fashion and style. Plus there are travel, dining and entertainment options to keep you informed, inspired and ready for action on and off the social circuit.

Pick at a copy of The Finder HERE and check out 134 pages packed with essential information and inspiring revelations to keep you up-to-date with Lion City life. Be enchanted by the talented witches of Wicked, the musical touted as Broadway’s biggest blockbuster. Meet Elphaba, the Wicked Witch of the West and Glinda, The Good Witch who’s very popular but a little spoiled, in their incarnations before Dorothy dropped in. We meet the stars of Wicked and hear about their musical journey. The show opens December 7 at Marina Bay Sands, Grand Theater and is set to be a smash hit with audiences here, as it has been elsewhere across the Globe. New to Singapore or interested in being updated on office etiquette? Then meet three Human Resource professionals who highlight some of the cultural norms and the no-nonsense approach of the Asian workplace. In Going Places we uncover a sizzling Seminyak stay at The Colony Hotel Bali, where you can experience old time elegance in a delightfully luxurious setting at affordable prices, and explore the royal retreats of Regal India with travel correspondent Sharmila Melissa Yogalingam.

Hard Rock Cafe introduce legendary Wagyu burgers. Tasty!

I now have a burger fetish! I had lunch at the Hard Rock Cafe last week and we all enjoyed delicious Wagyu Burgers on toasted sesame buns and served with lettuce, tomato, red onion and french fries. Wagyu is a breed of cattle whose meat is pre disposed to fatty marbling. The fat is important for burgers as it adds flavour and helps to keep the burgers moist and juicy, so I recommend choosing from Classic Wagyu Burger, Portobello Mushroom Wagyu Burger, Bacon and Cheese Wagyu Burger – my selection – or the popular Foie Gras Wagyu Burger. Tasty! Let me know if you get a chance to try these mouth-watering burgers. I’ll be back for sure especially as the Wagyu is imported from Australia.

The Finder is pleased to announce Singapore’s youngest cellist Brendan Goh will be launching his first CD on Thursday November 3rd 2011. The title of the CD is Brendan: A brand new day. Find a cause, keep it real and laugh out loud!

Recently, The Finder was invited to the launch of Enslaved: An MTV Exit special – a cutting edge, innovative educational campaign to raise awareness and increase prevention of human trafficking and exploitation. It got us thinking about causes. For certain it’s good to take a stand when it comes to having an opinion, a passion or a cause to support. What do you believe? What really gets you inspired to take action? It may be personal or universal, but whatever the focus it’s good to believe in something. We hope Singapore Secrets contributes to a little awareness-awakening in its own way.
Indeed, we invite you to make a difference, no matter how big or small. It may or may not be so serious every time. It could be simply straightening mayhem around the home or focusing on yourself to invigorate your look, a sure way to achieving a sense of pride and wellness! Share the joy, that’s our mantra. Don’t you agree, when you have people around you who exude happiness you feel happy too? You feel nothing is a challenge and you seem to get the job done, effortlessly. Laughter is infectious and it’s free so spread it in abundance. Just like the stars of The Kings and Queen of Comedy Asia 2 who’ll get you giggling in Five Minutes With…This is the second incarnation of what is set to be a seriously belly laughing event so see you in the front row – I’ll be the guy rolling around on the floor in hysterics!
For those who like a little tipple, whether it be over a quiet dinner for two or a gathering with friends, Wolf Blass has a year’s supply of Australian wines to give away. Visit Win Prizes for all the entry details. Plus, apart from our regular features you have come to know and expect from The Finder, we welcome Sarafina Pavia from Lemongrass House who shares her love for all things lemongrass, chat with Chris Churcher from Red Sea Gallery about Beagles In Boots and go horse trekking in Mongolia with Mano Griffiths from Barefoot Traveller. In Going Places we visit some choice golf and spa locations across the region with our travel reporter David Bowden while Assistant Editor Jassmin Peter takes a closer look at some of The Lion City rooftop wine and dining options in Wine and Dine. So what’s our advice? Find a cause, keep it real, laugh out loud and take the time to get in touch with what makes Singapore tick in this month issue. So pick one up the October issue today at one of 400 locations across Singapore, Find the Finder  here and Enjoy!

Slow and steady wins the race!

The Finder September Issue OUT NOW
I’m sure, like me, your thoughts stray perhaps more than occasionally to that perennial question, “Where does the time go?” For certain, there’s no escaping the daily routine. Whether you’re working long hours building your career or holding the fort on the home front, time and energy seem to just disappear. Whether it’s the kids, classes, meetings, obligations, groups, general running about or your fitness regime, it all takes time, which seems to be slipping away at a rate of knots! So we’re taking a moment now to offer a gentle reminder: slow and steady wins the race. Take time out each day to unwind and re-energise. Reflect on what you have achieved and prepare yourself for what’s to come.
And what better way to do this than to grab a coffee and take a quick break with The Finder to discover what’s on offer to help you relax, reinvent or just make life a little easier.

This month there’s definitely no escaping the 2011 F1 SingTel Singapore Grand Prix and once again we welcome the world to our doorstep. Bring it on! Whether you’re a die-hard rev head or an innocent bystander, the attention the Lion City receives – especially around the September 23-25 focal point, makes us realise what a truly international centre Singapore has become. An estimated audience of 150 million TV viewers is expected to tune in worldwide to watch the after dark thrills and, hopefully not too many, spills. And whether you support Italian Fernando Alonso, Aussie heart throb Mark Webber, Brit Lewis Hamilton, or any other member of the F1 drive pack, you won’t be disappointed with the on-track racing line up or the off-track entertainment. Global superstar Shakira and 1980s legend Boy George headline a terrific cast, which also includes legendary 80s’ crooner Rick Astley, as well as Filipina singing sensation and Glee starlet, Charice.

Check out too some cool tracks by circuit DJs flown in from around the world and get your groove on at one of the many A-list events including Amber Lounge with its sleek international fashion parades or the ultimate track party at The Podium Lounge poolside at the Ritz Carlton, Millenia. Organisers are offering The Finder readers ten double passes for Friday, September 23, so check out Singapore Secrets for entry details and insider tips on the must-do events. You can also meet an F1 organiser who shares personal experiences and challenges over the four years of service since the night race debuted in Singapore.

As you know, The Finder is all about convenience and value. So this issue we’re introducing SMS to WIN. A number of our regular sections offer you the chance to pick up some great prizes by sending us a standard text message without having to pay a premium to enter. Don’t miss Going Places where travel writer Sharmila Melissa Yogalingam explores some of the lesser known, quainter cities of China while Jetstar introduces flights to Beijing with a massive travel voucher giveaway. Just SMS and you could win!

There’s a wealth of information and diversity of choice in the september issue of The Finder, including a special wine, dine & gourmet roundup and professional advice from our regular finance, counselling and services’ contributors. So, take some time to discover what’s hot at The Finder. Life’s a marathon, not a sprint - unlike Grand Prix racing of course! Take time to smell those roses and maybe book in for a reflexology session or that massage you’ve been promising yourself for weeks. Remember time flies, especially when you’re having fun.

Brilliant nail biting entertainment

Last night I was on the edge of my seat throughout the performance of The Imperial Ice stars: Swan Lake on Ice at Marina Bay Sands. With Tchaikovsky’s glorious music, exhilarating new choreography and dazzling costumes, this innovative portrayal of the classic love story will take your breath away. What an experience! The show was rehearsed on an Olympic sized rink before being reduced to almost a quarter of the size to allow for travelling. You only need to imagine the excitement of the audience in the front few rows. The performances were extraordinary. Many non-standard executions never before attempted by skaters on such a small area thrilled the full house. This is a must see. The applause went on for quite some time after the curtain fell. Excellent production. Highly recommended.

Argentine beef experience in Singapore

I just had to share this extraordinary experience with you. SALTA Argentine Parrilla + Grocer serves up premium Argentine beef - free range grass-fed and imported directly from Argentina. Sounds expensive, no not at all. The rib eye I enjoyed today was prepared in the five-metre long charcoal fired grill called a Parrilla. This is a hot find for Singapore especially if you are a meat eater. My lunch guest enjoyed Tasmanian Atlantic Salmon so its clear, all can enjoy no matter your flavour.

SALTA is located in Icon Village, 12 Gopeng Street, #01-56

Q. Whats your weakness? A. House of Mini cupcakes.

For a big guy like me it may seem a little odd but I have to admit, I don’t mind a cupcake now and again. And to my delight I’ve discovered House of Mini in Singapore. You can customise your own cupcake requirements so your limited only by your own imagination. Try the Micro Cupcakes. They are about the size of a 50 cent Singapore coin. Go the Chocoholic or alternatively Mango Tango. A real treat for the kid at heart. What’s your weakness?

Celebrating friendship and what makes Singapore tick

John takes a breather at LanternEvery day seems to be a day of celebration in Singapore. Recently, my tenacious generosity to entice friends to visit our shores has crept up on me – my life resembles a revolving door. No sooner does one guest depart, then another proverbial “best” mate is in the wings to claim the spare room as their own. Don’t get me wrong, I’m not complaining. I’m blessed to have a diverse – although at times – challenging selection of life-long friends and past colleagues wanting to stay a while and reminisce of times gone by. But is it really me? How do I dare to think I am the main attraction when Singapore has so much on offer?

The celebration of a nation is the month’s hot topic. No matter your race, religion or creed, national pride is a universal theme touching the heart and igniting a flame of loyalty within. Being Australian, and now in my forties, I recall one of the greatest national day events now etched in my memory, the 1988 bicentennial celebration of Captain Arthur Phillip’s arrival in Sydney Harbour, marking the founding of the City of Sydney and the colony of New South Wales. As a budding male model and professional musician at the time, I was invited to join a swag of guests on a spectacular launch, owned by some media tycoon. It was a perfect January summer’s day. Thousands of vessels dotted the glistening waterways, the iconic Opera House basking in the sun in all its glory and the harbour bridge high above, with its 6 million hand-driven rivets joining the north shore to the south. Australians celebrated for days as only they know how, with good friends, plenty of beer and seafood. Revisit that Aussie feeling in Going Places which features some great down under road trips. This year I’ll be high above – celebrating with Singapore friends – overlooking the Float @ Marina Bay and viewing the National day fireworks from one of the Lion City’s favourite local watering holes Lantern, the spectacular rooftop bar at the Fullerton Bay Hotel.

This month The Finder explores the diversity and excellence we’ve all come to know as Singapore. In Singapore Secrets get acquainted with uniquely Singaporean architecture, food, arts, organisations and activities. We meet a man and his music in Expat Profile a member of The Singapore Symphony Orchestra who reminisces on his journey from Europe to Asia while an Ambassador’s wife proud to call Singapore home and an oil trader turned aromatherapy guru, shares her abundant feeling of joy and job satisfaction.
Could Singapore really be the centre of the know universe? With 50% of the worlds population within 7 hours flying time from our shores, 12 Million global citizens visiting annually, international shopping, all-star dining options – discover great Sunday brunch’s in Wine & Dine – theme parks, casinos, live theatre, world class educational facilities, the list goes on – what’s not to like. Singapore’s on fire and its here to enjoy so lets make the most of it before another instalment of international guests arrive on your door step, just so you can do it all again.

Do you have an interesting local find or Singapore experience to Share?
